I
n any sport, and with soccer especially, it is important to find the right club for your child and for you. Soccer clubs of all kinds are plentiful these days, each with their own development philosophies
and coaching styles. Choosing the club with the right fit can provide a lasting foundation for your child's soccer years, and choosing the wrong club can drive your child away from the sport never to return.
S
ome clubs, on one end of the spectrum, are fundamentally recreational. With these clubs, the focus is on the "child". Having fun and getting exercise is the primary goal with developing
soccer skills as a secondary goal. On the other end of the spectrum, some clubs are very disciplined and are focused on developing the "player" and not necessarily the "child". The primary
goal of clubs with this philosophy is to develop players with exceptional soccer skills through the use of drills and developmental exercises. Neither of these approaches are incorrect. But one philosophy will suit your child better than the other.
Here at Pleasant Hills
Soccer, our approach is well-balanced between the recreational philosophy and the developmental philosophy. We know from experience that
children will not continue with a sport if they are not having fun and enjoying themselves. Our focus is always first on the "child".
But we also realize that a child will have fun and enjoy himself when they see their soccer skills progress. No one likes to lose ... losing isn't fun. And when kids don't have fun, then they lose interest.
A
t Pleasant Hills Soccer, we strive for the challenging balance of developing BOTH the "child" and the "player". |
