We will continue to use the walls in our indoor training
environment and combine the dribbling skills with proper shooting technique.
The walls will provide for repetitive demonstrations and practices.
With the shooting technique, we want to concentrate on accuracy more than speed or power. Instruct the player that the most accurate shot is with the inside surface of the foot (like a pass) since the surface area is quite large. However, all players must also practice accuracy with the front laces of the foot as well.
Set up cones around the outside (about three yards)
of the outer boundaries of the playing area. Have the players dribbling
in space. Upon the coaches command, they must quickly attempt to knock
over as many cones as possible. Continue the game until all the cones
have been knocked down. Ask the players how many they were able to
knock down. Repeat the exercise several times, giving them hints
or ideas of how they can increase their accuracy of shot.
Siamese Pac Man Game
Create a five yard square area. This may be adjusted based upon the success of the players. Select one of the better players to be the Pac Man to begin the game. All other players must pair up, lock their elbows together for form the Siamese twins, and begin within the square area. The Siamese twins may move freely about must stay within this area. The Siamese players do not need a ball. All the balls are near the playing area. The coach may help with the collection of balls as they get away.
The object of the Pac Man players is to hit any of the Siamese twins with the ball below the waist. Here the Pac Man must concentrate more on accuracy and touch rather than hitting the ball hard. Let the Pac Man chase the ball for a while if they do not learn this right away. After the chase the balls, they will learn that it isn't the power of the shot but the accuracy. Once a player within a Siamese Twin gets hit, both of these players joins the Pac Man as additional Pac Man players and they too can shot at the remaining Siamese Twins. Play continues until only one Siamese Twin is remaining. These players becomes the Pac Men to begin the next game.
If the games go by quickly and the players are successful, you may choice to either open up the space to give the Siamese players more room. However, we do not want this to become a game of chase. We want to increase the frequency of shooting opportunities with more a challenge. If the game does become a more a game of chase. You can decide to move to regular Pac Man. In regular Pac Man, there are no Siamese Twins and the individual players are free to move about the area without any restrictions.
Fish in a Barrel Soccer Game
Fish in a Barrel Soccer is a team game which concentrates on instep shooting for accuracy. You may have two or more teams and you may begin with one or more balls. It is a continuous non-stop game with lots of opportunity to shoot at target cones with accuracy.
The field consists of a circled area lined off with low sitting cones or marked off with a line of some sort. Within the middle of the circle, place 12 to 18 high sitting cones (the style cones which can be knocked over).
The object of the game is to shoot the ball at the target cones in the center circle of the field and knock over one or more cones. Each cone knocked over is a score and the game is non-stop. Thus, after each hit, the ball typically continues into playing area where it is considered live for shooting. Keep track of each team's score. You may start with more than two teams and you may start with more than one ball.
The one major rule is that no player is allowed within the circle containing the cones. You may decide to pick up the fallen cones to help the players easily identify the targets. Also, any ball that stops in the center circle is considered dead which the coach may grab and distribute for continuation of the game.
As play continues, you can remove balls if you played with multiple balls. You can also reduce the number of teams down to two if you started with more than two teams.
